About the role
The Snowy GIS team is small but mighty, servicing a range of business stakeholders, such as the Generation, Land and Property, Environment and Water groups and major projects. We’re looking for a GIS powerhouse, someone technically skilled across systems, data, mapping, and analysis, while remaining deeply customer-focused.
Reporting to the GIS Services Lead, you will act as a technical subject matter expert to deliver high-quality geospatial data management and functional administration of our platform. This role is never the same from one day to the next; it is complex, challenging, and offers the scope to showcase the tangible value of GIS to the entire Snowy Hydro business.
We value the right mix of technical knowledge, personality and potential. If you don’t check every single box but possess the core theory and a passion for spatial problem-solving, we still want to hear from you.
Location
This permanent full-time role offers significant flexibility. You can be based out of our Melbourne, Sydney, or Cooma offices, or one of our regional operating locations. We also support hybrid work arrangements.
In this role you will:
- Undertake day-to-day administration of the ArcGIS Enterprise environment, including managing portal services, groups, collaborations, licensing, and user roles.
- Provide first-level support and collaborate with users and vendors to resolve complex technical issues.
- Acquire, process, and manage 2D and 3D geospatial data (including remotely sensed data) while maintaining rigorous quality control.
- Design, develop, and deploy intuitive web and mobile GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS Experience Builder, Dashboards, Field Maps).
- Perform complex analysis to derive actionable insights and produce high-quality cartographic visualisations.
- Proactively identify opportunities to translate unique business needs into effective GIS solutions and promote user engagement across the company.
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor or Masters degree in GIS, Geospatial Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of GIS industry experience, particularly within engineering, utilities, or asset management.
- Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and FME.
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language, with a strong preference for Python.
- High proficiency in at least two of the following: 3D GIS, remotely sensed data, or advanced spatial analysis.
- Experience managing corporate spatial data, applying data governance frameworks and working with corporate geodatabases, including versioning and archiving.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to convey complex GIS information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- A current driver’s license is required to facilitate travel to our remote sites.
