The Director, Tech Transfer is a senior leadership role within Technical Operations, responsible for defining and executing the global process and analytical technology transfer strategy across the product lifecycle.
In this position, you will play a critical role in ensuring the robust, compliant, and scalable transfer of manufacturing processes and analytical methods across development, internal manufacturing sites, and external partners.
You will enable successful commercialization, lifecycle management, and manufacturing network optimization by driving strategic technology transfer initiatives across CSL’s global operations.
Working across development, manufacturing, quality, and external partner organizations, you will provide leadership for complex global transfer programs and ensure alignment of transfer execution with portfolio priorities, operational objectives, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Governance
- Define and continuously evolve the global Tech Transfer strategy covering established process and analytical methods aligned with portfolio, lifecycle, and manufacturing network priorities.
- Establish and govern standardized frameworks, methodologies, and best practices for Tech Transfer.
- Provide strategic input to manufacturing footprint, capacity planning, and long-term operational strategy.
Global Tech Transfer Leadership
- Own end-to-end accountability for global Tech Transfer execution including process and analytical methods, ensuring delivery against quality, cost, and timeline targets.
- Oversee transfer strategies, risk assessments, and comparability approaches, ensuring validation readiness and PPQ alignment.
- Ensure complete, effective knowledge transfer and documentation across sending and receiving units.
- Provide senior technical oversight to ensure process robustness, scalability, and consistency across transfers and lifecycle changes.
- Ensure integration of QbD principles and control strategies into transfer execution.
- Lead resolution of complex technical challenges, including scale-up issues, facility fit gaps, and deviations.
External Partner & Manufacturing Network Management
- Lead identification, selection, and oversight of CMOs, CROs, and external partners supporting Tech Transfer.
- Conduct technical due diligence and capability assessments for new manufacturing sites and partnerships.
- Ensure external partner performance meets agreed quality, compliance, and delivery standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Ensure seamless collaboration across Process Development, Manufacturing, MS&T, QC, QA, and Engineering.
- Align development, clinical, and commercial organizations on transfer readiness and execution strategy.
- Facilitate structured communication across global stakeholders to ensure alignment and risk mitigation.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Define and monitor Tech Transfer KPIs (e.g., right-first-time, cycle time, deviation rates).
- Drive structured resolution of transfer risks, deviations, and performance gaps.
- Implement performance oversight and continuous improvement initiatives, including digital and innovative solutions.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree (PhD preferred) in Life Sciences, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Extensive experience (typically 12+ years) in biopharmaceutical development, manufacturing, or Tech Transfer.
- Proven leadership of complex global Tech Transfer programs across sites and external partners.
- Strong understanding of technology transfer, scale-up, process validation, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional, matrixed organizations.
- Strong track record in external partner management and manufacturing network collaboration.
- Excellent strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
- Experience in global, multicultural environments.
