The Senior Director, Head of Medical Affairs, APAC will provide enterprise level strategic, operational, and medical leadership for a high-performance Medical Affairs organization across the CSL responsible cluster, supporting ~$1.8b in revenue. This is a critical role to drive medical strategy and execution excellence for a critical function, enabling commercial growth objectives through evidence generation, scientific engagement, thought leadership and talent development.. The role ensures global medical strategy is informed by affiliate insights, shapes business priorities through scientific leadership, and drives flawless, compliant medical execution.
Reporting to the VP Medical Affairs International
Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Strategy Development:Supporting the development and implementation of medical affairs strategies aligned with Global Medical Affairs Strategy , International Brand Plans and APAC Business Strategy.
Team Leadership:Leading and managing the medical affairs team, providing guidance and mentorship.
Scientific Interactions:Providing input to global strategies for interactions with the medical community, including key opinion leaders and patient advocacy groups. Ensures the direction of Field Medical organizations are aligned to performance objectives and global Medical Affairs consistent practice.
Cross-Department Collaboration:Cross-functional collaborating with all relevant interfacing functions, including but not limited to: above-market medical affairs, marketing, market access (3M) , Public Affairs and Governmental affairs, PAGA, Ethics & Compliance and R&D
Research Management:Working with Evidence Generation team to design, and development of post marketing studies, including interfacing with community thought leaders, protocol design and evaluations. Drives projects to on time completion within budget and resolves issues as they occur. Ensuring collaboration and support to R&D as per agreed plan.
Compliance and Ethics:Ensuring all activities comply with relevant regulations, industry codes, guidelines, SOPs, and ethical standards.
Representation: Serving as a key medical expert and spokesperson at scientific conferences and other engagements.
Relationship Building: Building and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
Industry Monitoring: Monitoring and analyzing industry trends, competitive intelligence, and emerging scientific data.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
MD (preferred) or Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD) with 12+ years of pharmaceutical/biotherapeutics industry experience
Minimum of 12 years in the pharmaceutical/biotherapeutics industry, preferably in a relevant medical sub-specialty.
Clinical experience, preferably in a specialty relevant to CSL’s therapeutic areas/products
8+ years of Executive Medical Affairs Leadership experience
Demonstrated leadership in management, preferably in a global organization.
Proven relationship building skills with internal and external stakeholders
Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities.
Experience building and leading matrixed teams in a global organization
Strong capabilities in clinical research, evidence generation, scientific engagement, and a demonstrated record of
Influential leader who builds relationships across stakeholder types
Executive presence with ability to communicate complex data persuasively and relate study results and knowledge of therapeutic area to industry-specific applications
Strong working knowledge across multiple therapeutic areas and products
Business-fluent English
Ability for overnight travel, up to 50%
