About the role:Unitywater is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Planning Lead – with the focus on wastewater treatment plant to provide senior technical leadership across the planning, design, and delivery of major wastewater infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to influence strategic investment decisions and shape the future of wastewater services across the region.
You will bring strong technical expertise in wastewater treatment planning and engineering, with experience across process optimisation, capacity planning, and infrastructure upgrades. Working closely with the Growth Engineering team, you will translate master planning outputs into detailed planning, options assessments, and clear solution requirements to support capital program development.
As a senior technical leader, you will provide guidance and assurance across the planning and design phases. You will also provide technical assurance for deliverables from external partners, helping to support quality, compliance, and alignment with Unitywater standards as needed. You will lead complex technical discussions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Integrated Delivery Teams, consultants, regulators, and internal stakeholders to deliver robust, high-quality outcomes.

- Experience in the water industry with a proven track record in senior technical, planning, or design leadership roles within water utilities, consultancies, or similarly complex organisations.
- Extensive experience delivering complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects, with strong knowledge of treatment plants and associated assets.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in consultancy and design environments, including the ability to guide, review, and assure engineering designs and manage deliverables from external partners.
- Strong knowledge of water industry standards, materials, and specifications, with the ability to ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and organisational requirements.
- Proven ability to translate strategic and master planning objectives into practical, customer-focused solutions for capital works projects.
- Experience in needs analysis, options development, and data-driven decision-making to support optimal project outcomes.
- Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate across internal teams, consultants, and regulators.
- Strong organisational capability, with experience managing multiple complex work streams and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering and design processes.
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering (process or mechanical preferred), with RPEQ or progress towards.
