Shape and embed HCF's new Risk Assurance function, partnering with leaders across the business to strengthen risk, controls and outcomes.
About the Role
HCF is establishing a dedicated Line 2 Risk Assurance function, and we're looking for a passionate and experienced leader to shape, design and embed this capability across the organisation. Rather than stepping into a mature, established assurance team, you'll play a pivotal role in creating the framework, methodology, approach and education required to bring the function to life.
Balancing deep technical risk expertise with strong commercial business partnering, you'll provide independent Line 2 assurance to assess whether key risks are appropriately identified and managed, controls are designed and operating effectively, and regulatory obligations are being met.
Working closely with senior leaders, Heads of Function and Risk Owners, you'll help strengthen risk management practices, enhance control environments and drive better business outcomes across HCF.
With responsibility for a team of two Risk Assurance professionals, you'll foster a collaborative and high-performing environment, supporting team development and excellence in assurance delivery.
We're looking for a leader who enjoys driving improvement, influencing positive change and partnering with stakeholders to strengthen risk and control environments. Whether you've helped enhance an existing capability or delivered significant assurance initiatives, you'll bring the experience and passion to help establish a trusted and value-adding Risk Assurance function.
About You
You may come from a risk assurance, controls assurance, internal audit or risk management background. Importantly, you'll bring experience implementing or enhancing assurance frameworks, programs or methodologies and be energised by the opportunity to help shape a growing capability.
You enjoy collaborating with and developing others and are committed to fostering a positive, high-performing team environment. Whether you've formally led people or played a key role in coaching and mentoring colleagues, you'll be passionate about helping others succeed.
Commercially minded and highly collaborative, you're confident providing independent challenge and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the business. You enjoy working through complexity, bringing people on the journey and turning strategic objectives into practical outcomes.
You'll Bring
- 8+ years' experience in risk assurance, controls assurance, internal audit or a related discipline within the Australian financial services industry.
- Strong knowledge of APRA prudential standards, including CPS 230, and broader regulatory requirements such as FAR and ASIC obligations.
- Demonstrated experience developing, enhancing or implementing assurance frameworks, methodologies or assurance programs within complex organisations.
- Experience leading assurance reviews and assessing the effectiveness of risk management and control environments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, challenge and build trusted relationships with senior leaders.
- Experience coaching, mentoring or developing others, with the ability to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience within a Big 4 or leading professional services environment will be highly regarded.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Law, Risk Management or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as CPA, CA, CIA or equivalent.
