Powering Critical Water Infrastructure Through Technical Excellence
We are seeking an experienced Technical Advisor - Electrical to provide specialist electrical expertise, leadership and technical direction across our critical metropolitan Water Resource Recovery and Water assets.
In this influential role, you will mentor and support maintenance teams, lead complex fault-finding and asset performance initiatives, and help ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of essential infrastructure that serves the community.
Working at the intersection of operations, maintenance and engineering, you will play a key role in optimising electrical, instrumentation and SCADA systems, driving continuous improvement, and supporting the delivery of maintenance programs across a diverse asset portfolio.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical professional looking to combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership, coaching and strategic asset management.
Based in Shenton Park, this is a fixed-term opportunity through to 30th June 2027 with the possibility of longer-term extension.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead the safe, compliant, and efficient operation and maintenance of water assets, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
Provide specialist technical expertise, fault-finding support, and problem-solving for complex operational and maintenance issues.
Manage maintenance programs, shutdowns, inspections, testing, risk assessments, and contractor activities to maximise asset reliability and performance.
Develop, implement, and optimise work schedules, maintenance plans, and resource allocation to achieve operational objectives.
Coach, mentor, and support the development of maintenance teams, fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Oversee maintenance projects, capital works inputs, and contract delivery to ensure quality, compliance, and cost-effective outcomes.
Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and external agencies to support service delivery.
Contribute to business performance through asset management planning, technical reporting, documentation management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical capability, sound engineering judgement and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.
You will possess:
- Recognised Electrical Trade qualification relevant to water or utility operations.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance, with proven capability in leading teams and supervising operational activities.
- Significant experience working within complex industrial, utilities, process, operations, or maintenance environments.
- Strong technical expertise in fault finding, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting of electrical and process systems.
- Proven ability to identify, implement, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and asset performance.
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
The following would be highly regarded:
- High Voltage switching certification and practical HV experience.
- Experience working with electrical, instrumentation and SCADA systems.
- Experience using SAP maintenance management systems.
- Exposure to steam generation systems, energy recovery facilities or other complex process plant environments.
- Experience carrying out the function of electrical nominee
- Experience supervising or maintaining Type B gas appliances and associated gas systems and equipment and or WA Gas Fitting Permit.
