Join a high-performing Senior Management Team and lead the operational delivery, safety, compliance and continuous improvement of the South Australian Prisoner Movement and In Court Management (SAPMICM) Contract.
We are hiring an experienced and driven Head of Operations, in a permanent full time capacity, based at our Cavan site, to ensure the contract operates effectively, safely, and in accordance with core legislation and contractual requirements. This pivotal leadership role provides operational oversight, strategic direction, and subject matter expertise to the Contract Director and Senior Management Team (SMT).
You will play a critical role in shaping operational excellence, leading a multidisciplinary team,
strengthening stakeholder relationships and driving innovation across a complex and dynamic contract environment. The role also includes occasional regional travel as required to support operational delivery and stakeholder engagement across South Australia.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Operational Leadership: Oversee day to day operational delivery, support and develop operational leaders, maintain and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and contribute to strategic workforce planning and operational change initiatives.
- Leadership Support & Best Practice: Deputise for the Contract Director as required, contribute to best practice service delivery, and support the development and resilience of senior and middle management teams.
- Safety, Compliance & Risk: Support safe and compliant contract operations, assist with risk and incident management processes, ensure adherence to relevant legislation and policy requirements, and foster a respectful, inclusive and zero harm focused work environment.
- Security & Intelligence Governance: Contribute to security and intelligence forums, support governance processes, and ensure appropriate handling of operational and sensitive information.
- Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Act as a primary liaison with DCS, DHS, SAPOL and other partners, promote community engagement across the SAPMICM contract and build strong working relationships with internal teams including SMT, finance, SHEQ and operational support functions.
- Performance, Reporting & Financial Support: Monitor and interpret operational performance information, prepare required monthly and annual contract reports and assist with budgeting, forecasting and broader financial management activities.
Skills and Experience
- Relevant qualifications in business, management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Leadership and management experience in commercial, strategic and operational environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in industry best practice, regulatory requirements and contributing to change or improvement initiatives, with justice industry experience. (highly regarded)
- Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to work in a dynamic, reactive setting.
- Solid financial capability, including experience with budgeting/forecasting and interpreting financial information.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SAPOL Clearance, AFP Check and Working With Children Check (SA).
