About The Role
Ventia has had a long‑term maintenance and operations contractor for EastLink, motorway running between Mitcham and Frankston in Melbourne’s east.
Reporting to the Finance Portfolio Manager, the Senior Project Accountant primary responsibilities are to provide efficient, accurate, and standardised accounting services to assigned projects / business units / sector.
They will ensure compliance with accounting standards and provides a complete and accurate financial record that enables Finance Partners and management to make timely, informed decisions.
This is a permanent full-time position based out of our Ringwood site offices, offering a flexible working environment.
Other responsibilities as required:
- Lead, mentor, and develop accountants and administrators across the finance portfolio
- Provide guidance on processes, best practice, and learning & development
- Allocate work effectively and ensure month‑end project checklists are completed
- Monitor complex project financials, including variances, expenses, and billing accuracy
- Investigate variances and report profitability insights to key stakeholders
- Prepare and review journals, accruals, reconciliations, and ensure compliance with policies and standards
- Support month‑end reporting, commentary, analysis, and client reporting requirements
- Manage project setup, WBS structures, and review cost allocations and corrections
- Oversee billing, cash collection, WIP, and aged debtors to support strong cashflow
- Drive process improvement, standardisation, and respond to escalated stakeholder and audit requests
About You
The successful applicant will have relevant qualification and experience working in a similar role, ideally within a large complex project environment accompanied by:
- Experience with ERP software (particularly SAP / Ariba)
- Excel Intermediate to Advance skills
- Demonstrated experience at a project level in equivalent industry ideal
- Strong analytical skills to problem solve and provide innovation
- Clear insights to performance based on data – gross margin, OH Ratios, fixed/variable costs etc
- Track record of developing team members, including non-finance project staff
