About the role
As a Scheme Process Operator, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our Water & Wastewater schemes for the town of Onslow. You’ll be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and optimising the seawater desalination plant, Borefield operations which includes electrified, diesel & Hybrid power generation to operate and control associated water supply sources & treatment processes.
You will also play a vital role in keeping your community’s water and wastewater systems running smoothly, inspecting pipelines and repairing essential water and sewer services.
Working both independently and as part of a skilled team, you’ll oversee daily plant and scheme operations. Conduct water quality testing, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards. This hands-on role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering reliable water & wastewater services to the community.
You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and maintain accurate operational records.

What you can expect with this role
- Operate and monitor desalination processes (RO/UF and associated systems) in compliance with water quality and production targets
- Operate and monitor the Cane River borefield scheme in accordance with water quality, source balancing & licencing requirements.
- Maintain and repair the water and sewer reticulation networks within the town of Onslow. Including the repair of pipework, Maintaining sewer pump stations and general civil works.
- Conduct routine inspections, testing and adjustments to optimise plant & scheme performance.
- Perform planned maintenance, troubleshoot issues & perform corrective action within your skillset
- Conduct water samples to ensure compliance within water quality standards
- Maintain accurate records of operational data, maintenance activities, and safety checks
- Participate in an on-call roster, responding to afterhours alarms and faults within the Onslow water and wastewater schemes.
- Collaborate with other operators and technical staff to optimise plant performance
Your skills and experience
For this role, we are looking for great talent with:
- Experience in complex process plant operation, ideally in desalination, water treatment, or similar industries. Essential
- Certificate II, III or IV in Water Industry Operations (or equivalent) desirable
- Strong understanding of water quality standards and environmental regulations
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, technical drawings, and SCADA systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good problem-solving and mechanical aptitude
- Able to establish a good rapport with customers within the community
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting
- Willingness to be on-call as required
