This role plays a vital part in ensuring Defence personnel are correctly fitted, presented, and supported with high quality uniform and alteration services. If you enjoy hands on work, take pride in precision, and value being part of a supportive team, this could be the role for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Seamsperson, you’ll work as part of a dedicated stores and customer service team, delivering alteration and fitting services, including:
- Measuring and fitting customers for Defence clothing items
- Sewing and attaching rank, badges, insignia and medals in line with Defence standards
- Completing basic alterations such as hemming, ironing and garment adjustments
- Maintaining accurate records for seamsperson services and orders
- Ensuring the security and care of medals and issued items
- Supporting customer service activities including issuing, accepting and inspecting returned items
- Using Defence systems and computer terminals for transactions and record keeping
- Assisting with stock handling, manual handling, housekeeping and general store duties
- Complying with all workplace health & safety, security, and environmental requirements

What You’ll Bring
- Experience in sewing‑based roles, including tailoring or garment alterations, will be highly regarded
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high quality workmanship
- Customer focused approach with clear communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Sound time management and organisation skills
- Basic computer and data entry capability
- A current driver’s licence and reliable transport
- Ability to meet Defence security requirements
- Australian Citizenship is required to obtain the necessary Defence security clearance.
