About the role
The Airfield Support Officer plays a vital role in the day-to-day delivery of aerodrome management and air terminal operations across designated Defence Estates. This position is responsible for carrying out operational tasks that maintain compliance with aviation regulations, ensure aerodrome safety, and support Defence capability.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Inspect all movement areas, markings, wind direction indicators, and perimeter fences
- Work with other Base Services Contractors to coordinate remediation efforts
- Manage aerodrome lighting systems
- Organize and coordinate escort duties as required
- Manage air terminal operations, excluding security screening equipment and services
- Conduct dangerous cargo acceptance documentation for air transport in accordance with IATA DGR and/or AFAMDGMAN for Class 2-9, Potentially Class 1
- Comply with Ventia’s SHEQ Management systems, including statutory obligations
- Collect relevant data for trend analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
About you
- Minimum 1+ year experience in aerodrome operations, ground handling, or air terminal support.
- Certificate I in Aerodrome Operations or relevant competency units.
- Willingness to undertake additional training and professional development provided by Ventia as required to ensure compliance with service delivery standards and operational requirements.
- Eligibility to obtain airside access and security clearances as required by Defence and aviation regulations.
- Proficiency in operating ground support equipment such as baggage carts, ground power units and air conditioning units (required)
- Strong understanding of aviation safety regulations and compliance frameworks.
- Excellent coordination, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undertake and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police Check
