About the role
The Airfield Services Leading Hand plays a critical role in the safe and efficient delivery of aerodrome management and air terminal operations across designated Defence Estates. This position is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and overseeing operational activities that ensure compliance with regulatory standards, maintain aerodrome integrity, and support Defence capability.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Oversee the delivery of aerodrome management, air terminal operations, and ground handling services in alignment with contract requirements and operational KPIs.
- Ensure safe and efficient execution of all aerodrome-related deliverables under the contract.
- Monitor performance of internal staff and subcontractors through targeted audit and compliance programs.
- Support planning and scheduling of aerodrome activities to optimise resource utilisation and minimise operational disruption.
- Ensure aerodrome movement areas, markings, markers, wind indicators, and perimeter fences are maintained to Defence operational standards.
- Coordinate with Defence stakeholders on operational requirements and service delivery priorities.
- Support the development of high-quality technical reports, scopes of work (SOWs), and management plans necessary for operational delivery.
- Ensure compliance with all aerodrome safety regulations, legislative obligations, and Defence policy requirements.
- Review and support the development of technical procedures and management plans to maintain alignment with WHS, aviation safety, and Defence standards
About you
- Minimum 4+ years’ experience in aerodrome operations, air terminal management, or ground handling services.
- Prior experience supervising teams and coordinating aerodrome activities in compliance with aviation safety standards
- Certificate II in Aerodrome Operations or relevant competency units.
- Relevant certifications such as Aerodrome Operations Specialist (AOS) or Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP).
- Willingness to undertake additional training and professional development provided by Ventia as required to ensure compliance with service delivery standards and operational requirements.
- Dangerous Goods Handling accreditation in accordance with IATA and Defence requirements (advantageous).
- Eligibility to obtain airside access and security clearances as required by Defence and aviation regulations.
Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undertake and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police Check
