This is not your standard safety role.
We’re looking for an experienced SHEQ Advisor to support a complex contract across courts and custodial environments. You’ll be working closely with operational teams, managing risk, investigating incidents, and helping drive a strong safety culture in environments where things don’t always go to plan.
If you prefer a structured, predictable day — this probably isn’t for you. If you like being out on site, solving real problems and having a genuine impact, keep reading.
What you’ll be doing
- Investigating incidents, including injuries and sensitive events, and identifying improvements
- Managing return to work and rehabilitation processes
- Running scheduled audits and assurance activities
- Delivering inductions, toolbox talks and safety training
- Maintaining risk registers, management plans and supporting use of safety systems and data
- Working closely with operational leaders to embed safety frameworks and critical risk controls
- Regular site visits across courts and custodial facilities
This role isn’t for everyone. You’ll be exposed to confronting situations at times and working in environments that can be unpredictable. The workload can shift quickly, with competing priorities and reactive work throughout the day. You’ll need to build credibility with a broad mix of stakeholders and be comfortable being visible and hands-on — not sitting behind a desk pushing paperwork.
What we’re looking for
- Strong experience in SHEQ / HSE within a complex or high-risk environment
- Experience conducting internal audits or strong exposure to audit processes
- Solid understanding of WHS legislation, risk management and ISO standards
- Experience leading or supporting incident investigations
- Ability to influence operational teams and drive practical outcomes
- Comfortable working across multiple sites
What’s on offer
- Salary in the range of $125000 plus super
- Company vehicle
- A level of flexibility, balanced with being present and visible on site
- The opportunity to work in a genuinely unique and challenging environment
The essentials
- Relevant qualification in WHS, Safety, Environmental or similar (Cert IV minimum)
- Auditing qualification highly regarded
- Ability to obtain a police check and relevant security clearances
This role will suit someone who is resilient, practical, and comfortable working in environments that aren’t always straightforward. It’s challenging, but it offers real impact for the right person.
Apply if you know what you’re walking into — and that’s exactly why it appeals.
