The Opportunity
Join Venture Smart, a 50/50 joint venture between Ventia and Johnson Controls (JCI), delivering Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) maintenance and electrical capital works across Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) assets and infrastructure.
As an ECW Electrician, you will be responsible for the frontline delivery of electrical and ITS minor capital works across metropolitan and regional Western Australia. This includes working on:
- Traffic signals, SCATS, warning signs and signalised intersections.
- Roadway lighting, switchboards and associated electrical infrastructure.
- CCTV, Variable Message Signs (VMS) and Vehicle Detection Systems (VDS).
- Smart Freeways technologies, including radar and lane management systems.
- Optical fibre communications and Bluetooth travel time systems.
- Emergency roadside telephones and solar-powered electrical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, commission and integrate ITS, electrical and traffic control equipment.
- Install, upgrade and maintain CCTV, VMS, VDS, traffic signal controllers, switchboards and associated field equipment.
- Install and troubleshoot fibre optic, wireless, Bluetooth, twisted-pair and IP/Ethernet communication networks.
- Commission and troubleshoot ITS devices including dynamic message signs, CCTV/PTZ cameras, encoders, decoders and Ethernet switches.
- Support the construction and upgrade of signalised intersections and electrical infrastructure.
- Assist Leading Hands, Supervisors and Traffic System/Signal Technicians with project delivery, planning and scheduling.
- Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, SH&E requirements and legislation.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, management and stakeholders while contributing to a productive team environment.
- Participate in planned night works and support incident reporting, safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
About You
- A Grade Electrical Trade Certificate, Post-Trade Certificate, or relevant AQF qualification/training.
- Experience in electrical, electronic, instrumentation, communications, ITS, traffic signals, or traffic control systems.
- Transport, roads, commercial, or heavy industrial experience, preferably in a brownfield environment with operational assets.
- Strong fault-finding and basic maintenance skills across electrical, mechanical, ITS, and communications systems.
- Current WA Driver’s Licence (MR or higher).
- Confined Space, EWP, and Vehicle Loading Crane tickets; Forklift and Traffic Management accreditation are advantageous.
- Sound understanding of safe work practices, risk assessment, and working safely on roadways.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office, with the ability to learn proprietary software.
- Positive “can-do” attitude and strong team focus.
- Reliable, punctual, organised, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment.
- Able to take direction, demonstrate initiative, and work confidently both independently and as part of a team.
