About the Role
Do you thrive on delivering planned and productive operations by leading high-performing teams and ensuring safety and quality? Due to a recent internal move, we now have an opportunity for a passionate Operations Superintendent – Rehabilitation to join the Alcoa family. This is a residential permanent, Monday to Friday role with the luxury of returning home from site each day.
Alcoa’s rehabilitation objective is to establish and return a self-sustaining Jarrah Forest ecosystem. Reporting to the Huntly Mine Manager, you'll collaborate with others to execute the plan for Rehabilitation Earthworks whereby the mine pit areas are landscaped to be stable and to blend in with the surrounding forest. You will enhance safety and overall operational effectiveness by applying structured problem-solving and a focus on delivery of the rehabilitation plan and targets.
This role requires specific expertise in managing and driving performance across a large contractor workforce. You will excel at contract management, ensuring alignment with Alcoa's standards while fostering a high-performance, quality, and safety culture across all teams. Your focus will be on executing in compliance with rehabilitation standards and designs to deliver the Rehabilitation season plan on cost, quality, and schedule.
Key Responsibilities include:
Oversee both an Alcoa and a significant Contractor workforce, holding both groups to the same rigorous standards when it comes to safety and quality of work. You will coach supervisors and teams on safe and efficient equipment operation, with a strong focus on pro-activeness to rectify issues to prevent problems.
Guide, organise, oversee, and train rehabilitation teams (both internal and contractor) to meet targets while following all safety, health, environmental, and legal rules. You will demonstrate strong organisation, time management, contract management, and communication skills, build good work relationships, and be committed to learning and being an effective team member.
Collaborate with planning and design teams to implement best practices for material movement, stockpile management, and other key cost drivers.
Collaborate with environmental teams to adhere to quality standards, including drainage protection, erosion controls, and dieback management.
Provide operations feedback to improve short and medium-term rehabilitation planning, sequencing, and designs by incorporating current operational status and best practice sharing.
Ensure adherence to rehabilitation completion criteria and other relevant regulatory requirements.
Champion the implementation of cost savings or productivity change initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

What you can bring to the role

Experienced in managing large contractor workforce and contract administration, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in project execution

An advocate for continuous improvement and skilled change leader, who also demonstrates effective communication and influencing skills across all levels of the business.
Relevant surface mining experience with a tertiary background in Civil or Mining engineering, or experience with large scale bulk earthworks projects and surface mining operations
You should hold Schedule 26 - Statutory Supervisor, SSE and Quarry Manager accreditation. Alcoa will provide support in obtaining accreditation, you will need a Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership position or have worked in a similar operation or industry to Alcoa.
Crucially, this role requires significant experience in planning and executing large-scale earthmoving operations, with a proven ability to strategically manage material in consideration of environmental protection measures.

About the Location
Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world’s second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa’s Pinjarra alumina refinery. Bauxite ore from Alcoa’s Huntly and Willowdale mines helps to produce almost half of Australia’s alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s aluminium.
