About the role
We are seeking a Senior Analyst – Data Engineering to join our Data & Analytics team within the Information & Technology Group. This is a senior technical specialist role, accountable for designing, building and supporting secure, scalable and high-performing data platform and pipelines that enable analytics, insights and data-driven decision-making across the business.
In this role, you will work at scale with modern cloud-native data platforms, building production-grade data pipelines and frameworks that collect, transform, model and serve high-quality data to analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders. You will also play a key role in mentoring others, driving innovation, and uplifting DataOps and engineering practices.

What the role will involve
- Design, build and optimise data pipelines, datasets and databases using cloud-based and big data platforms.
- Implement approved data product framework design patterns, including data ingestion, ELT processes, data modelling, data quality, monitoring, alerting and metadata management.
- Lead innovation by evaluating emerging data engineering and big data technologies and making recommendations for adoption.
- Develop and implement backup, recovery, migration and data population strategies.
- Execute and oversee testing and validation to ensure accuracy, reliability and quality of data transformations.
- Monitor production data products, proactively identifying performance and reliability improvements.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, patterns and procedures.
- Coach and mentor team members on dataset design, database management and engineering best practices.
- Work closely with analysts and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and datasolutions.
- Provide third-level support and technical expertise for data platforms and products.
- Operate within DataOps, Agile, DevOps and IT service management frameworks.
Key skills and experience
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Management).
- Substantial experience in software development and data engineering roles.
- Strong experience designing and building data transformation processes, data models, and data quality frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native data and analytics platforms, particularly AWS and/or Databricks.
- Advanced experience in Python for data engineering and analytics use cases.
- Experience working in Agile/DevOps environments, using Git-based version control and modern IDEs.
- Exposure to machine learning engineering and MLOps concepts.
Technical Skills
Substantial experience using the following technologies to build and operate reusable, version-controlled data pipelines across Dev, Test, Prod environments is required.
- Cloud analytics and Lakehouse platforms (AWS, Databricks).
- Data engineering, ELT and orchestration services (e.g. S3, Lambda, Glue, Lakeflow, Airflow etc).
- Databricks Lakehouse and distributed processing (Spark, Delta Lake, Structured Streaming).
- SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g. Redshift, RDS, DynamoDB).
- DataOps and CI/CD tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, CodePipeline).
- Strong SQL and scripting capability.
