About the Role
Our Global Impoundment team has a rare opportunity for a highly analytical, forward‑thinking Risk Analyst to help elevate impoundment risk management across Alcoa’s global operations. Your expertise will enhance our risk frameworks, strengthen operational excellence, and contribute to safeguarding our people, communities, and environment.
As a key member of our global team, you’ll play a central role in ensuring that Alcoa’s tailings, residue, and water storage facilities meet world‑leading standards. Collaboration will be at the core of your work as you partner with site engineers, technical experts, and global leaders to support safe, efficient, and sustainable impoundment development, operation, and closure.
Key Purpose & Activities
Lead global impoundment risk management, including identifying dam safety risks and developing, maintaining, and applying risk analysis tools, processes, and frameworks to prevent impoundment failures.
Support and participate in Alcoa’s 25‑year Impoundments Master Planning, contributing to strategic studies and governance processes that ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable tailings storage through to closure.
Execute and uphold governance processes by verifying critical risk controls and validating outcomes from design, construction, audits, and assurance activities across global operations.
Prepare and communicate clear risk and planning reports to senior leadership, outlining current risk status, recommended mitigation actions, and implications for short‑ and long‑term strategies.
Contribute to long‑term infrastructure, rehabilitation, and closure planning, ensuring impoundment development remains safe, sustainable, and aligned with future operational needs.

What you can bring to the role
Tertiary qualifications in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering, with experience in civil engineering, risk management, or planning roles.
Demonstrated experience in executing deep analysis into risk processes including development of risk assurance activities and communication of risk status, strategies and mitigating actions to relevant personnel including senior leadership.
Sound knowledge of internationally recognised Tailings Management Standards and Guidelines, such as ICMM, ANCOLD, ICOLD, MAC/CDA, and USBR, combined with proven risk management skills.
Well‑developed communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse cultures, stakeholders, and technical disciplines.
Practical experience with tailings in an operational environment is highly desirable, along with demonstrated capability in risk analysis tools, strategic planning, and application of risk-based decision-making.
Previous experience within the resources sector is beneficial, along with the ability to work across multiple time zones, including participating in weekly evening calls and ad-hoc travel.
