Project Accountant
We are seeking a Project Accountant to join our Finance Centre of Excellence (COE), supporting the Resources West portfolio. This role owns the accuracy and completeness of project financials and billing for assigned projects, ensuring information is reliable, compliant, and delivered on time.
This role will suit someone who values getting the fundamentals right, takes accountability for transactional outcomes, and brings a disciplined, questioning approach to financial data.
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance Portfolio Manager, the Project Accountant is responsible for the day to day project accounting and billing activities across the portfolio. You will ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and aligned with internal controls and accounting standards.
The role sits within the Finance Centre of Excellence, working closely with project teams, portfolio finance, and related finance functions to deliver consistent, high quality outcomes.
This is a full time role based in our East Perth office, with flexibility available where it does not impact delivery or control requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end to end project accounting activities, including cost recognition, accruals, journals, and reconciliations
- Own billing activities, ensuring invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned to contractual and project requirements
- Support month end and year end close for project financials
- Maintain accurate and complete project financial data within SAP
- Monitor project costs and investigate variances or anomalies
- Work with stakeholders to resolve accounting and transactional issues
- Support budgets and forecasts through accurate, well controlled base data
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and governance frameworks

- Project financials are accurate, complete, and audit ready
- Billing is timely, compliant, and requires minimal rework
- Financial data in SAP is trusted by stakeholders and portfolio finance
- Issues are identified and resolved before they impact reporting or billing
- Processes and controls are incrementally improved without compromising accuracy
About You
- Experience in a project, management, or transactional accounting role
- CPA qualified or actively working towards CPA
- Strong working knowledge of SAP (or similar ERP), particularly cost management and billing
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- High attention to detail and accountability for outcomes
- A tendency to question numbers, understand drivers, and seek clarity
- The ability to work effectively within a Centre of Excellence model
- Experience in a project based, engineering, or resources environment will be highly regarded
