The maintenance workforce plays a critical role in keeping the road network safe, reliable and operational for the travelling public. Works are performed across metropolitan and regional Victoria and include planned maintenance, fault response, emergency works, inspections, repairs, testing and restoration of traffic signals and ITS assets.
About the role
We are seeking a Project Engineer – Maintenance to support the safe and efficient delivery of ITS maintenance works, including fault resolution, minor projects, asset replacements, testing and commissioning, technical investigations, and quality assurance. Working closely with engineers, supervisors, field crews, subcontractors, and client stakeholders, you will provide technical support, coordinate field activities, maintain engineering documentation, and ensure all works are delivered in line with contract, safety, quality, and operational requirements.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide engineering and technical support for maintenance, fault finding, asset replacements, minor works, technical investigations, and root cause analysis.
- Coordinate project delivery from planning through to execution, testing, commissioning, handover, and close-out, ensuring works are properly resourced and delivered efficiently.
- Champion safety and compliance by supporting safe work practices, risk assessments, permits, site inspections, and incident investigations across live traffic and high-risk environments.
- Manage stakeholders and resources by coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, materials, permits, traffic management requirements, and technical inputs from internal and external teams.
- Support commercial outcomes through estimating and pricing works, managing variations, tracking costs, and maintaining records for contract reporting and client submissions.
- Drive quality assurance and standards compliance by supporting inspections, testing, commissioning, defect management, and ensuring accurate project and asset documentation.
About you
- Relevant qualification in Electrical, Civil, Communications, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3+ years' experience in engineering, construction, maintenance, or infrastructure delivery environments.
- Exposure to ITS, traffic signals, electrical, communications, road infrastructure, or utility sectors is highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of project delivery, testing, commissioning, quality assurance, and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication, coordination, problem-solving, and organisational skills, with a high level of attention to detail and record management.
