About the Role

As part of our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Center of Excellence (CoE) reorganization, we are elevating the importance of safety by introducing a new Global Safety Director role to lead our Safety CoE and drive world-class safety performance across all global operations.
As the Global Safety Director, you will play a critical leadership role within Alcoa’s Global EHS CoE. You will provide strategic direction and oversight for Alcoa’s global safety strategies and programs, with a relentless focus on eliminating fatalities and serious injuries and continuously reducing risk and harm across all operating locations worldwide.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead global safety strategy and provide technical direction and advice across all operations.
- Develop and govern safety standards and programs, including Fatality & Injury Prevention, Process Safety, Leader Time in Field, Safety Maturity Model, and Human & Organizational Performance.
- Deliver global systems and tools to support safety programs and ensure consistent implementation.
- Benchmark and represent Alcoa externally, connecting with industry leaders and bodies such as ICMM and IAI.
- Monitor performance and drive improvement, including KPIs, lessons learned, major incident investigations, and emerging regulatory changes.
- Coach and collaborate globally, mentoring safety professionals, advising senior leaders, and fostering a culture of safety excellence through site engagement.

What you can bring to the role
- Degree in Health and Safety or a related discipline (essential); postgraduate qualifications highly desirable.
- Extensive experience: 15+ years in senior health and safety roles, including 10+ years in the resources sector.
- Proven leadership: Inclusive, motivational, and able to inspire teams to innovate and deliver zero harm and wellbeing.
- Strategic and operational expertise: Skilled at managing complex issues, influencing globally, and driving practical solutions.
- Deep knowledge of governance and compliance, with strong problem-solving skills to navigate ambiguity and develop effective strategies.
- Exceptional interpersonal and judgment skills, with high ethical standards and a collaborative approach.

En tant que Directeur(trice) Global(e) de la Sécurité, vous jouerez un rôle de leadership essentiel au sein du CoE EHS global d’Alcoa. Vous fournirez une orientation stratégique et superviserez les stratégies et programmes de sécurité mondiaux d’Alcoa, avec un objectif constant : éliminer les accidents mortels et graves, et réduire continuellement les risques et les dommages dans l’ensemble de nos sites d’exploitation à travers le monde.
Responsabilités clés
- Diriger la stratégie mondiale de sécurité et fournir des conseils techniques dans toutes les opérations.
- Développer et encadrer les normes et programmes de sécurité, notamment la Prévention des Accidents Mortels et des Blessures, la Sécurité des Procédés, le Temps des Leaders sur le Terrain, le Modèle de Maturité en Sécurité, et la Performance Humaine et Organisationnelle.
- Mettre en place des systèmes et outils globaux pour soutenir les programmes de sécurité et garantir une mise en œuvre cohérente.
- Assurer le benchmarking et représenter Alcoa à l’externe, en établissant des liens avec des leaders du secteur et des organismes tels que l’ICMM et l’IAI.
- Suivre la performance et stimuler l’amélioration, notamment via les indicateurs clés (KPIs), les leçons apprises, les enquêtes sur les incidents majeurs et les évolutions réglementaires émergentes.
- Encadrer et collaborer à l’échelle mondiale, en mentorant les professionnels de la sécurité, en conseillant les dirigeants et en favorisant une culture d’excellence en matière de sécurité grâce à l’engagement sur site.
Ce que vous apportez au poste
- Diplôme en santé et sécurité ou dans une discipline connexe (obligatoire) ; des qualifications de niveau postgrade sont fortement souhaitées.
- Expérience approfondie : plus de 15 ans dans des rôles de direction en santé et sécurité, dont plus de 10 ans dans le secteur des ressources.
- Leadership éprouvé : inclusif, motivant, capable d’inspirer les équipes à innover et à atteindre l’objectif « zéro accident » et le bien-être.
- Expertise stratégique et opérationnelle : aptitude à gérer des enjeux complexes, influencer à l’échelle mondiale et proposer des solutions pratiques.
- Connaissance approfondie de la gouvernance et de la conformité, avec de solides compétences en résolution de problèmes pour naviguer dans l’ambiguïté et élaborer des stratégies efficaces.
