About The Role
Reporting to the Project Director, The Commercial Manager will be responsible for leading and governing the commercial aspects of the Western Roads Upgrade (WRU) Project across the full contract lifecycle — from contract securing and mobilisation through to delivery, close out and post project evaluation.
The role provides strategic commercial leadership, strong governance and risk management, and works collaboratively with the Finance Manager to support effective financial performance, value creation and informed decision making. Acting as the primary commercial interface between the project, business unit and Ventia’s Legal, Insurance and Risk shared services, the Commercial Manager enables strong client relationships and successful project outcomes.
This is a permanent full-time position with an attractive salary on offer based from our Laverton North Depot.
Other Role Responsibilities:
- Involved in all commercial interactions between the project parties
- Being the commercial lead on procurement, and project commercial activities
- Management of all commercial claims and contractual matters
- Preparation of commercial risk reviews and strategy
- Undertaking regular detailed reviews of project performance/compliance with standard commercial and contract administration systems and processes
- Ensuring commercial activities are executed in accordance with Ventia approvals and procedures
- Early detection of potential commercial issues and implementing strategy to resolve them promptly and a to satisfactory outcome.
- Increase commercial acumen and knowledge of delivery teams
- Identify synergies across delivery teams and regions to streamline processes and delivery of services
- Implement actions to address legal and regulatory requirements and company business standards, processes and Group policies
About You
- Principle understanding of contract & construction law and project commercial administration systems.
- Proven ability to manage risk, protect contractual entitlements and deliver value‑for‑money outcomes.
- Strong commercial and contractual expertise, with proven experience in cost planning, project controls, contract administration and negotiation within complex construction or infrastructure environments.
- Proven track record in delivering commercial outcomes at an operational level
- Specific experience in PPPs, Operations and Management experienced desired
- Qualifications in quantity surveying, law, commerce, engineering or other relevant disciplines.
