About the role
As the Senior Technical Advisor – Wastewater Quality Planning, you will provide strategic leadership and expert technical advice to support the sustainable return of treated wastewater to the water cycle. This role plays a critical part in shaping long‑term priorities and initiatives for treated wastewater management, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, regulatory expectations, and emerging industry trends. Based in Leederville, you will influence planning and decision‑making across marine, aquatic, and groundwater environments, while representing the business in key forums related to wastewater reuse, disposal, and future drinking water sources.
Working collaboratively across the organisation and with external stakeholders, you will lead strategic research programs, manage specialist contracts, and provide authoritative advice on water quality performance, public health outcomes, and environmental impacts. The role requires strong technical judgement, well‑developed analytical capability, and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to diverse audiences. You will also stay at the forefront of regulatory, scientific, and technological developments, ensuring the organisation remains proactive, compliant, and innovative in wastewater quality planning and management.

What you can expect with this role
- Providing strategic leadership and expert technical advice on the sustainable management, reuse, and disposal of treated wastewater across marine, aquatic, and groundwater environments.
- Leading long‑term planning priorities and coordinating corporate research programs to support safe, reliable, and future‑focused treated wastewater outcomes.
- Assessing wastewater quality performance against current and emerging guidelines, and advising on operational, environmental, and public health impacts.
- Managing specialist contracts and providing technical input into new technologies, research initiatives, and wastewater recycling and disposal assets.
- Building strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, and representing the organisation on committees, workshops, and regulatory forums.
- Monitoring regulatory, scientific, and industry developments to identify emerging risks, opportunities, and trends affecting treated wastewater management.
Your skills and experience
For this role, we are looking for great talent with:
- You hold a degree‑level qualification in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, or have equivalent demonstrated experience that meets the role requirements.
- You bring substantial experience in treated wastewater management, including disposal and reuse, with a strong focus on public health and environmental outcomes.
- You have proven capability providing high‑level technical advice and support to wastewater or wastewater recycling operations to achieve regulatory compliance.
- You are an effective communicator with advanced interpersonal and negotiation skills, able to influence and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- You demonstrate strong analytical, conceptual, and technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare and review complex technical reports.
- You are proactive, values‑driven, and contribute positively to a high‑performance, collaborative culture, with an interest in emerging technologies and industry trends.
