Lead communications that drive real change.
The Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner (OASC) is seeking an experienced Communications & Engagement Manager to lead high-impact communications, media and stakeholder engagement that shape NSW’s response to modern slavery.
This is a senior, visible role working closely with the Commissioner to influence public conversation, engage diverse stakeholders and raise awareness of modern slavery across government, business and the community.
Your role
As the Communications & Engagement Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of strategic communications, media and engagement initiatives that support the Commissioner’s statutory functions and priorities under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (NSW).
You will provide trusted, high-level advice to the Commissioner and senior stakeholders, manage sensitive media matters, and drive compelling narratives that inform, influence and build trust.
This role reports directly to the Commissioner and sits within a small, specialist statutory office during a period of growth and increasing public profile.
What you’ll do
In this senior role, you will:
- Lead and deliver integrated communications, media, social media, event and stakeholder engagement strategies
- Provide expert, timely advice on complex and sensitive communication and media matters
- Shape and deliver narrative-led communications that engage government, business, civil society and lived-experience communities
- Manage media enquiries and issues, ensuring accurate, risk-aware and reputationally sound responses
- Research, write and edit high-quality communication materials including speeches, media releases, briefings and reports
- Plan and deliver events and forums, managing logistics, budgets and delivery timelines
- Use insights, data and evaluation to continuously improve communication effectiveness
You’ll work collaboratively across NSW Government, while also engaging externally at state, federal and, where required, international levels.

- Proven ability to provide high-level communication and media advice in complex, high-accountability environments

- Experience working on issues related to human rights, social justice, sustainability or vulnerable communities (highly regarded)
