About the role
This full‑time Data Analyst role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, quality, and governance of data that supports operational, contractual, and compliance requirements across Defence.
You will lead data lifecycle management, strengthen validation and quality frameworks, and ensure data integrity across multiple internal teams and external stakeholders. This role is critical to maintaining high standards of data reliability, compliance, and reporting excellence.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ):
- Comply with Ventia’s SHEQ systems and statutory obligations related to data governance and ICT security.
- Proactively identify and resolve data‑related non‑conformities to maintain compliance and integrity.
- Support issue resolution and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Promote a positive SHEQ culture through safe, accurate, and accountable data practices.
- Complete all mandatory SHEQ and specific training requirements.
Operational Excellence
- Lead integration and synchronisation of data management activities across internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Provide strategic guidance on data operations to support enterprise‑wide governance and compliance.
- Manage end‑to‑end data lifecycle processes including acquisition, validation, classification, and upload.
- Monitor and audit datasets to identify discrepancies, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and quality.
- Develop and maintain scalable systems and protocols for efficient data analysis, reporting, and lifecycle tracking.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing enhancements to data workflows and governance practices.
- Ensure all contract‑related data meets regulatory, contractual, and organisational standards.
- Implement robust validation frameworks to detect and correct data inconsistencies.
- Establish and enforce standards for data quality, classification, and retention across projects.
Customer Engagement
- Collaborate with client and internal stakeholders to ensure data governance frameworks align with organisational and client requirements.
- Provide clear guidance on data integrity, compliance standards, and lifecycle protocols to support consistent and secure data practices.
- Support reporting and analytics activities that deliver actionable insights, improving service delivery and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Maintain strong communication channels to proactively address data‑related queries, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Team Development & Culture
- Share knowledge and best practices to build data capability across operational teams.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.

About you
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of computer networking concepts, protocols, and network security methodologies.
- Proficiency in data management tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, and data visualisation platforms.
- Solid understanding of risk management processes and cybersecurity principles.
- Experience in data classification, handling requirements, and governance frameworks.
- Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve data discrepancies.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in managing complex datasets.
- Excellent adaptability to evolving technologies, processes, and organisational priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in data management or a related field.
Security Clearance
Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. Applicants must be Australian Citizens and willing to undertake and maintain an Australian Federal Police check.
