Ventia is a long-standing partner of the Department of Defence, providing integrated Defence infrastructure and asset management support services.
We are currently in the mobilisation phase for the construction of a sewage treatment plant at the Amberley RAAF Base.
We provide complete project lifecycle management - from initial concept design and engineering through construction, commissioning, and final handover.
About the Role
Reporting to the Project Manager and in conjunction with both the engineering and construction team, you will lead the design function; ensuring all design issues are identified, resolved, and aligned with project requirements. You will implement and maintain all design management processes and procedures, and ensure that all documentation is complete, accurate, and ready for the handover/takeover phase.
You will bring a blend of project engineering capability and essential design expertise, contributing to both day‑to‑day project delivery and ongoing design requirements across the contract.
About You
- Strong design management experience across multidisciplinary engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, process), ideally on water or wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Proven capability managing subcontractor D&C packages, including design review, interface management, scope alignment, and verifying that deliverables meet contract requirements.
- In-depth understanding of water industry design standards, such as WSAA codes, relevant Australian Standards (AS/NZS), environmental regulations, and state authority specifications.
- Ability to interpret and manage technical documentation, including design reports, IFC drawings, technical specifications, ITPs, quality documentation, and O&M manuals.
- Experience running design workshops and technical meetings to coordinate disciplines, resolve design issues early, and ensure alignment between subcontractors, stakeholders, and project requirements.
- Strong knowledge of design review processes, including design verification, validation, safety in design, HAZOP/CHAZOP processes, and managing design hold points.
- Document control and handover readiness skills, ensuring all subcontractors deliver structured, complete, and compliant documentation packages for client acceptance (including as-built drawings, commissioning results, and asset data).
- Risk and interface management capability, identifying design risks early and coordinating solutions across mechanical, electrical, civil, and process interfaces.
- Contractual awareness, including understanding D&C obligations, variation triggers, EOT implications, and ensuring subcontractor designs remain within scope.
- Clear communication and stakeholder management skills, enabling effective coordination between subcontractors, internal teams, the client, and third-party authorities.
