In partnership with the Australia Defence Force, we are seeking a SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality) Business Manager to lead the teams supporting our Defence contracts nationally.

As the leading SHEQ Professional for our Defence sector, you will work with SHEQ team to foster an integrated approach to deliver on legal, contractual, and business SHEQ requirements.
This role can be based in Melbourne or Brisbane, with flexibility to work from home. Travel and working outside core hours may be occasionally required.
As a SHEQ Professional, you will be responsible for:
- Bringing our Strategy to life at Line of Business level across all contracts
- Proactively enabling safe and healthy workplaces and communities.
- Leading, communicating and providing SHEQ advice and support to the operations team, subcontractors and stakeholders.
- Empowering stakeholders to manage risk and safeguard the safety of employees, the environment and the broader community.
- Managing and applying the Ventia SHEQ governance framework and management system.
- Using systems and processes to enable an integrated approach to SHEQ management so we continue to deliver on our legal, contractual and business requirements.
- Working with and across teams, to apply relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
- Delivering on our environmental commitment towards a Healthy Planet.
- Supporting the growth of SHEQ Professionals
About you:
- Experience in a safety, health, environment and quality role, with relevant industry experience desirable.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement SHEQ strategies to ensure compliance, minimise risk and enable continuous improvement.
- You’re an influencer of leadership, embed practical risk controls and an ability to lift capability across operations.
- Ability to implement, track and maintain SHEQ objectives and targets.
- Formal training in incident investigation. Experience in leading ICAM investigations an advantage.
- Operational experience in high-risk environments advantageous.
- Tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in Workplace/Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental management.
- Detailed knowledge of SHEQ legislation, regulatory requirements and ISO standards.
- Proficient in using online applications including Microsoft Office, safety management and reporting systems.
