Senior Commercial Manager – Defence & Social Infrastructure
Ventia is looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to drive commercial strategy, governance and performance across some of Australia’s most complex and high value programs. This is a rare opportunity to play a key leadership role within a nationally significant portfolio.
About the Role
As the Senior Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of end to end commercial outcomes for major contracts. You’ll work closely with executive leaders, key stakeholders and industry partners to ensure Ventia delivers value, compliance, and exceptional performance.
Regular travel will be required, including visits to Defence sites across Perth, Victoria, NT and Tasmania (approximately 12 visits per year).
To be successful in this position you must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement, you must be an Australian Citizen.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial strategy for major Defence programs
- Negotiate and manage complex, high value contracts
- Ensure compliance with Defence procurement frameworks (CPRs, DPPM)
- Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
- Build strong relationships with senior Defence and industry stakeholders
- Lead and develop a high performing commercial team
- Support enterprise initiatives including innovation, digital enablement and customer excellence
What You’ll Bring
- Previous experience in commercial management within Defence, government, major projects or complex service environments
- Strong knowledge of Defence procurement, contracting frameworks and stakeholder environments
- Experience across Defence Base Services, Social Infrastructure, health or education sectors (highly desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to lead strategic negotiations and oversee major contract portfolios
- Operational understanding combined with strong commercial acumen
- Proven ability to communicate confidently and influence senior stakeholders
- Experience leading teams and driving commercial performance
- Degree in Law, Commerce, Business or related discipline
- Willingness to undertake regular interstate travel (approx. 12 Defence site visits per year)
- Ideally based in Perth (Melbourne considered)
