About the Role
Ventia is seeking experienced and reliable FIFO Chefs to support our remote camp operation in Maralinga, South Australia. This casual FIFO role works on a set 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off roster (15 days on, 13 days off), providing consistency and a predictable work pattern. You will fly from Adelaide Airport direct to Maralinga Airport, with all accommodation and meals provided while on site.
Shifts run for 11.5 hours (11 hours paid) and generally operate midnight – 11:30am or 10:00am – 9:30pm, however shift times may vary depending on site requirements.
Working independently or as part of a small team, you will prepare high‑quality meals for around 45 camp residents (camp capacity approx. 51 rooms). You’ll follow a rotating menu cycle to ensure consistency and efficient use of ingredients, contributing to a welcoming, comfortable “home away from home” for the remote workforce.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Prepare and serve hot breakfast and dinner services, ensuring consistent, high quality meals.
- Prepare grab and go crib lunches that stay fresh and hold up well during 12 hour shifts.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment including grills and deep fat fryers.
- Maintain a clean, sanitised and well organised kitchen environment, including utensils, equipment and food prep areas.
- Support food safety requirements including temperature checks, cleaning schedules and documentation.
- Assist with stock rotation and basic stock control.
- Deliver friendly, professional service to all camp residents.
Skills & Experience
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (required).
- Previous FIFO, remote, or camp catering experience highly regarded.
- Valid Australian driver’s licence.
- Confident driving a manual 4WD vehicle (ability to pass a manual 4WD competency course is required).
- Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and safe kitchen practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage long shifts in a remote environment.
- Ability to pass an in clinic medical (including drug and alcohol screening) and complete a National Police Check as part of pre employment checks.
- Unrestricted Australian work rights.
